Above the Arctic Circle during the season of darkness a chance encounter between an American and a Norwegian spawned a transatlantic musical duo called The Familiar.
Native New Yorker Ruth Mirsky (ex-The Drums) and Tromsø-based producer, Mads Martinsen, make nordic electronic pop that evokes a mythic cross between the northern lights and noir cityscapes.
The Familiar’s sound is hailed as “seductive synthpop” by The Guardian, and their sultry downtempo music has been celebrated by Huffington Post, GAFFA Magazine (Sweden), Ha’aretz (Israel), The Line of Best Fit (UK), Nordlys (Norway), and Impose Magazine, among others.
The Familiar’s sync placements include HP/Virgin Racing and Six Scents Parfums commercials, MTV’s Stitchers, and Unge Lovende (NRK, Norway). Åsmund Hasli’s video for the single “World Ends” was a finalist in Norway’s national short film festival.
With three EP’s, numerous singles, and the 2021 release of their debut album “Shelter”, The Familiar continue to make waves in the indie electronic scene with a steady burn of unshakeable melodies, passionate vocals, and evocative instrumentals and are planning their first live shows for 2023.
We, at #remarQabl, are honoured to be representing their Catalogue, being involved in broadening their audience and having input into their Artistic development going forwards.
